In his seventh season as the Demopolis High School girls head basketball coach, Tony Pittman took his 26-5 DHS Lady Tigers to their first appearance in school history to the State Finals in Birmingham.
Along with the Lady Tigers first appearance in Birmingham there was also a first win in Birmingham as the Lady Tigers defeated Madison County 52-47.
And even another first for the lady Tigers came this season when they defeated the No. 7 ranked Andalusia Lady Bulldogs in the Southwest Regional championship game.
Pittman has led his lady tigers to the Southwest regional every year since taking over the program, but had not been able to advance beyond Mobile until this year.
Pittman has led his team to an impressive 48-15 record over the last two years and came within just one game this year of giving the Tigers their first basketball state championship. It is for this reason that the Demopolis times has selected DHS head coach Tony Pittman as the 2003/2004 Girls All-Region Coach of the Year.
