Come Thursday and Friday, Homecoming is expected to be a busy time for Demopolis High School and West Alabama Prepatory students. Both schools are celebrating Homecoming the same week.
DHS will hold their pep rally Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. The Homecoming queen will be announced at that event. The bonfire will be held on the DHS campus.
The DHS Homecoming parade will begin Friday at 1 p.m. from behind the Board of Education Building on Cedar. The parade featuring the River City Blue Marching Band will move north on Cedar, down Washington, turn on Walnut and ends at the downtown post office.
The DHS Homecoming Court will be presented Friday night at 7 before the 7:30 kickoff of the Demopolis-Fayette County game in Memorial Stadium.
The Homecoming Dance will be Friday at 10 p.m. after the game.
The students and fans of West Alabama Prepatory School are also excited about homecoming activities, said Assistant Principal Carolyn Bell.
Bell said that Thursday night the school will hold a pep rally and bonfire starting at 6:30 p.m.
On Friday, a pep rally will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Then there will be a football game between West Alabama Prepatory and Shelby Academy beginning at 7:30 p.m., with pre-game ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m.
The homecoming queen for West Alabama Prepatory will be crowned at half time, and there will be a homecoming dance 30 minutes after the ball game, which will be held in school’s gymnasium.
Bell said that the purpose of homecoming is for former students to come back and reminisce about their time spent at West Alabama Prepatory, and to come and enjoy the game and as well as the other ceremonies.
Bell said that homecoming, which began this week for West Alabama Prepatory, included decorating school doors as well as having children dress up in costumes.
Bell said that the student government association at West Alabama Prepatory plans homecoming events.
