It was unexpected, but it turns out that that the person who stole merchandise at the Shoe Department wasn’t from the outside, but was, in fact, on the inside.

Det. Sgt. Tim Soronen of the Demopolis Police Department said that The Shoe Department on Cardinal St. in Demopolis reported several items of merchandise stolen as well as some additional cash.

Soronen said the stealing went on over a two-month period from August to September.

The stealing, however, wasn’t done from someone on the outside, but rather was done by an insider &045; an employee at the store.

Her name was Shonna Monique Jackson, 20, of 141 Rainbow Cr. in Demopolis, an employee working at the Shoe Department.

Det. Sgt. Tim Soronen of the Demopolis Police Department said that police arrested Jackson for stealing shoes and other accessories, worth up to $1580, as well as stealing an additional $510 in cash from the cash register at the store.

Soronen said that what led to the arrest of Jackson was one slip-up. She was caught on videotape stealing merchandise.

"That’s how we caught her," said Soronen. "She was caught on the tape actually taking merchandise from the store."

Soronen said that Jackson was charged with theft from shipment, and sent to the Marengo County Detention Center.

She was given a bond of $3000.
