Public’s help sought in Elk robbery

Demopolis Police need the public’s help solving one of the three recent robberies at a local convenience store.
The only image created by surveillance cameras in Elk Food Mart shows a man wearing a bandana and wielding a knife fleeing from the store. And though the pictured captured by camera is hard to make out, Demopolis Police Det. Sgt. Tim Soronen believes someone in the public can help police solve the crime.
Using the Demopolis Tip Line at (334) 289-1475, Soronen said that any person with information can contact police and remain anonymous.
Last week, Police Chief Charles Avery said his department was still investigating the case and he conveyed that police were moving in on a suspect.
In the early morning hours of June 17, police were called to Elk Food Mart for the third time in a month. A man, shown in the adjoining picture, held up the night clerk with a knife and took close to $500 in cash and change. On two other occasions, Elk has been robbed, and both times, police were able to apprehend a culprit shortly after the incident.
