DA Generals are 1A area champs

The Demopolis Academy baseball team defeated Clarke Prep Thursday 8-6 in Grove Hill to become the 1A area champs.
The Generals will host a first round game in the AISA playoffs next week at the Demopolis SportsPlex. The date and time had not been determined by press time.
Pitching for DA was Jake Willingham. He allowed eight hits, seven strikeouts and only three walks.
In the first inning Kevin May reached base on an error and then was driven in by a home run by Willingham.
The Clarke Prep Gators scored one run off three hits in the bottom of the first to end the inning with the Generals leading 2-1.
In the third inning Willingham reached base on an error by the third baseman then scored on a double by Andy Lowe.
In the fifth inning Willingham singled, and Brooke Phillips reached base on an error. Joey Seale doubled, scoring Willingham, and Lowe hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to score Phillips.
Clarke Prep scored another run in the bottom of the fifth, and DA lead 5-2.
In the sixth inning Matt Busbee reached base on a error. Kevin May singled to right, and Willingham hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Busbee.
Phillips singled, and Joey Seale hit a double to score May.
The Gators rallied in the bottom of the sixth with several costly errors by the Generals. Clarke Prep scored four times.
In the seventh inning Busbee doubled, then scored on a double by May.
The Generals held the Gators scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to take the game and the 1A championship 8-6
