BIRMINGHAM – Keeping the honor at the University of West Alabama for a second consecutive year, the Gulf South Conference announced Mystee Dale as the 2010-11 Women’s Basketball East Division Player of the Year on Wednesday. She was joined by Latashia Greer and LaShandra McCoy on the All-GSC Women’s Basketball Teams.
Dale has been nothing short of stellar on the season as she leads the GSC in scoring with 21.2 points per game – a number that is good for second in the nation. The Laurel, Miss., native is also tops in the conference in free throw percentage as she has connected on 86.9 percent of her attempts at the charity stripe, and she ranks in the top 10 of seven other categories.
Honored six times as the GSC Player of the Week, she received the award more times than any other player in the conference this season.
Both Greer and McCoy landed on the All-GSC Second Team as both have been integral parts of a team that has gone from a 9-19 record last year to the 18-8 mark the team holds now.
Last season’s Co-Player of the Year, Greer is averaging nearly 11.7 points per game while also grabbing an average of 6.3 rebounds en route to registering three double-doubles on the season. McCoy is scoring an average of 10.9 per contest, and she is seventh in the conference with 3.7 assists and 10th in the league with a 75.4 free throw percentage.
The All-GSC honorees and their teammates will look to extend their season when they open the 2011 Gulf South Conference Tournament on Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Delta State.
